Roller Derby, Bitches!

So, maybe I joined the roller derby. Yep, I'm a rookie derby girl. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday I can be seen on the flat-track beating the living pulp out of other girls under the pseudonym Lotta Hurt. I'm only playing off the bench at the moment being so brand new, but jeez I love this sport. I went down to the local rink a while back to check out the girls and got to talking to a few of them. I mentioned that I would love to join. They called the lead roller over and she looked at me and said, "Hell, yes. If you can skate, I want you. Blocker, ladies. Blocker." Apparently I am more than a little intimidating. I'm an even six feet tall, have the shoulders of a kayaker (because I was one) and the last sport I played was rugby union, so I'm not afraid of getting hurt. Hadn't skated in a long time. So I bought me some derby skates and skated as often as I possibly could. Now my average for off-the-bench blocks is second highest in the league.

What about the rest of my life outside the derby?

I work as a strange concoction of shopfitter/decorator. It's hard, gruelling work, and a lot of it is done overnight. So my most common shift is eight pm to ten am. I do work fourteen hour shifts, but that means I always score a lot of overtime pay, which means I had the four hundred bucks required to buy derby gear. I don't mind my work, but I also study full-time by correspondence. I'm doing secondary education with the aim to teach English and Media. All in all, I am a busy person. But I do enjoy it. I adore my family. I have two brothers (older) and a younger sister. My parents are both hard-working supportive people. I'm also gay. Yes, I know. But that's just me.

Whatever. That's enough for now. Maybe tomorrow I'll tell you a story about how I got into a fistfight with a distributor that ended with me in stitches, her with a broken nose and her in court.
